Our Story

Hi, I’m Rachael.  I’m a school kid living in Cockle Bay, Auckland.

Inspired by people I see on social media doing great things, I decided to try something myself.  So with the help of my parents, lots of research, business lessons, candle-making practice and testing, in May 2023 I started Mauve Candles.

Mauve sells amazing smelling scented candles in beautiful jars. They are hand-made and packaged by me, and quality-checked by Mum or Dad.  Some of my scented candles will appeal to adults and some will appeal more to teens. These might be a great gift idea for someone you know.  My friends love the Vanilla Cream Cinnamon Donut scented candle - a fragrance I dreamed up.  Other fragrances which are unique to Mauve Candles are Luxury Linen (influenced by Mum) and Italian Leather and Sandalwood, which was blended obsessively until "perfect" 🙂 by Dad.

In case you have concerns about the quality of a candle made by a school kid, I made over 50 candles during all the testing I did before selling one and I've made hundreds since then, so I'm already pretty good at it.  And Dad is always hanging around keeping an eye on things. We try to do every little thing we can to minimise impact to the environment.  Below are some things we do:

• We only use 100% natural soy wax. Soy wax is plant based and is derived from the fast growing Soybean plant. It is renewable, sustainable and is naturally biodegradable.

• We reuse as much of the packaging our supplies arrive in as possible to ship orders to our customers. This minimises waste and reduces costs for Mauve Candles.

• We offer a scented candle refill service to local customers so they can use their favourite candle jars over and over again (we offer this for any candle jars, not just Mauve candle jars).  A great option that minimises waste and saves customers money.
